EAST APPOINTED VICE PRESIDENT, SCHOOL DIVISION
FOR COASTAL CONSTRUCTION
MIAMI (April 2006) – Thomas P. Murphy Jr., Chairman and
CEO of Miami-based Coastal Construction Group, today announced
that Ken East has been appointed Vice President, School Division
for Coastal Construction Company, a subsidiary of Coastal.
In his
new role, East will be responsible for overseeing the construction
development of the company’s academic projects and will work
closely with several Florida school districts to maintain and further
client relationships. Currently, Coastal has nine academic projects
in progress with Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Projects include
the construction of a three-story, 36-classroom, 854-student station
modular at Ferguson Senior High School; pool renovations at MAST
Academy; and a new learning center, chiller building and baseball
diamond at Madie Ives Elementary School.
“With Ken’s experience and tremendous passion for building
schools, there is no doubt that he will be very successful in this
role,” said Murphy. “I am extremely excited to have
someone of his caliber focus on the construction of our academic
projects and continue to foster important client relationships.” East
most recently served as a disaster recovery consultant and interim
facilities director for the St. Lucie County school district
where he was responsible for overseeing operations including the
school’s facilities and maintenance departments, new construction
projects, as well as managing all aspects of the school’s
hurricane recovery efforts.
Prior to his work with the St. Lucie
County school district, East spent 10 years with the Monroe County
school district as leader
of the facilities department and was responsible for implementing
a $125 million construction program to fund the district’s
initial construction plan. He also managed to successfully develop
a half-cent sales tax construction program that was overwhelmingly
passed by voters, making Monroe the first county in the state to
successfully pass a sales tax initiative.
A licensed general contractor
in Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands, East has more than 14
years of experience constructing schools.
His growing portfolio includes Sugarloaf Middle School on Sugarloaf
Key, Coral Shores High School on Tavernier Key and Key West High
School.
